Q: Tax Preparation Courses?
I am interested in starting my own preparation course though I have no experience in the is field.I am currently in school receiving a BS in accounting. I was hoping for free tax courses on line.
Do you know of any on line courses for immediate classes and/or what direction/steps do I need to begin this process?
Thanks in advance for your help.
A: Google “V.I.T.A + tax preparation”
Q: Anyone know of any good tax preparation courses..online? taken any course?
Im looking for something that has a good reputation and is for real. and of course affordable. i looked through a couple but im curious if anyone has taken an online tax prep course and your thoughts on it. which one was it? or should i just do the h and r block one?
A: Take the H&R Block one. You can’t learn by sharing an instructor’s experience by taking an online class. Online classes are fine for some things, but something as detail oriented as taxes needs to be learned by having live interchange with a person who has been there. And there is NO tax class as good as H&R Blocks class. (I should know, I have been teaching it for years!) And it is dirt cheap. They keep changing the price up and down, but I think it like $100 this year.
Q: Can anyone tell me where I can take an online tax preparation course?
I am looking for free or low cost courses that will teach me how to prepare personal taxes.
A: http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=125098,00.html
Q: How long does it take to complete a tax preparation course?
I know there is something like beginners, intermediate, and advanced. If there is different lengths of time commitment for each level please do give detail. Thank you.
I was planning to go to Jackson Hewitt…
A: In CAlif. 60 hrs of instruction is r’qd which most community colleges offer in the fall term
Q: Has anyone taken the tax preparation course offered by HR Block and been hired to work at completion of course
Was the pay scale adequate? Was the training thorough?
A: That is how i started and am still with them after 9 years….
as far as training and course… it is the basic course .. you learn more with hands on… they give you ample continueing courses if you really want to learn and move forward… you can take the course and if you get a “C” .. u can get a cerificate but have to have a “B” or higher to get hired on…. as far as pay etc.. it varies some pay on commission of tax returns and some pay hourly… It is great part time work cuz the season is only jan- april… there is company owned and franchise owned … so pay varies… and the longer you stay, more clients you can build and larger commissions etc… I know some people who make about 25,000 in the season but have been with block for 10-15 yrs and have a large client base … its like anything else the harder you work , the better you get, the more money you make…. hope that answers some of your questions

A: They do offer classes but not at this time. I think the online was through hewitt jackson. Call a few places, they start up in like Sept or something, from what they told me, you take the class and then they choose who they want to hire, everyone else simply gets free tax training.
Q: Is H&R Block tax preparation course difficult to complete ?
I missed it last year and am going to take it this time.
Can anyone tell me how hard it is ? Thanks.
A: no. basic math is all that is required and the ability to understand and follow rules/driections. research skills is also helpful. if you do well they will offer you a job and have an opportunity to take advance courses.
Q: How much does H&R Blocks tax preparation course cost?

Q: Can someone tell me about course offered for tax preparation?
Are the classes offered by liberty, hnr block and Jackson hewlett legit. What can you tell me about the courses. Do you make good money during tax season?
A: Yes, they are legit. Of those 3, the Block course is the best. From what I have read, the Block course covers the most. The courses teach on how to prepare a basic income tax return. Block’s course goes a little more in depth when it comes to deductions and credits.
If you get hired, how much you make depends a lot on how much you work. Many first year preparers with the 3 big chains don’t make very much because they haven’t built up their client base yet.
Q: Tax preparation course at H&R block?
I’m an accounting major, and I just moved to a different borough of NYC so I tried to switch colleges. Things didn’t work out, I missed the deadline for the Student Loans, so I have to pay 500 upfront to validate my classes. Not gonna happen.
So I have to do something with myself while I wait for the next semester or I’m going to go insane. Also, I’m trying to pay off some debts, so I became interested in the H&R block tax course.
Now, the course costs 275.00 in my area, and there is a disclaimer that says enrollment or completion of this course does not guarantee employment. Given the current economic situation, and your own personal experience if you or you know someone who has worked at H&R block as a tax preparer, what do you think my chances are of landing a position at tax season? (I’m aware this will cause a schedule overlap between the next semester of school, and working at H&R block, just thinking things through at this point).
Also, if you have the information, what is the going pay rate for a beginning tax preparer. I thought that this would give me some valuable job experience and perhaps extra money to get out of debt during my down time. What do you think?
A: I’ve taken the H & R tax class, but it wasn’t that expensive. There’s a test at the end of the class that, when passed, enables you to begin working for them. The class itself was free, but the book cost $100. I wouldn’t work for them because the first year of working having passed the class, they only paid $8.00/hour. At the time, I already made around $16 at my day job so it wasn’t much incentive to stay late at night. I think Jackson Hewitt offers a free class or the other national chain. You should sit in on one of those to give you some insight if you decide to pursue your accounting degree again. Otherwise, you may want to try a smaller CPA firm. They’ll probably pay a little more. Everybody is looking for an accountant at tax time so no worries.
Q: What is a decent on-line tax preparer’s course?
The H&R Block course in my area of Oklahoma is closed and will not open until Aug 2010. In the meantime I wish to take a course on-line. Can anyone suggest a good on-line tax preparation course?
A: Dear Patsy: Look at Kaplan or Gleim. If nothing suites you look at the NAEA web site(National Enrolled Agents Assoc.)
Q: H&R Block tax preparer – how much are they paid and how much can they expect to earn during the tax season?
I was thinking of taking the HR Block tax preparation course and then, hopefully, working for them as a tax preparer during the regular tax season, Jan – April. What are tax preparers paid and how much does a tax preparer generally earn during a typical tax season. Is there a possiblity of becoming a permanent, full time employee?
A: Unless you already know how to prepare taxes, it is too late to work for HR Block in 2010. You might try to get in as a client service person (front desk that checks people in) for 2010.
You will get a more complete answer about pay by calling the office of your choice. It is a fair question, but you won’t likely get a more definite answer than that you are paid according to how much money you generate doing tax returns.
Q: What is the best tax preparer software?
I’ve just passed the 60 hour tax preparation course at H&R
Block. I want to set up a business to do tax returns but need suggestions as to the best software to use. I will not be doing complicated businesses and corporations.
A: Don`t be discouraged by the tax heads trying to scare you off.It is true HR `s basic training benefits no one but themself.Turbo tax is not pro enough to run a business with …you need to buy something like Drake software, Taxslayer pro..or tax wise. They have qualified assistance to teach you everything you need to know. There is a lot of money in this business but you should be prepared to spend some real cash too. good luck.
Q: how to become a Tax Preparer?
Online Tax Preparation Courses?
A: Signing up with a tax preparation firm like H&R Block is a good stepping stone to get some practical hands on experience; if you want to go that route, just do your homework and pass the tests in their Income Tax course and you should be offered a job right off the bat. For more info on the course, go here: http://www.hrblock.com/taxes/planning/tax_courses/index.html.
But if you’re serious about making a career out of it, you’ll definitely want to pursue further certifications. You could shoot for being a Certified Public Accountant if you are interested in more besides taxes (such as accounting, payroll, etc), or you can go for the Enrolled Agent if you want to specialize in taxes.
CPA’s are able to perform a wider scope of services, but also take a lot more work to get the certification (which, by the way, is done state by state so you have to get re-certified for each state in which you practice).
EA’s are purely tax professionals and therefore have a faster track available for certification; all you ahve to do is pass a three part test (albeit a grueling one) administered by the IRS on the various areas of taxation (individuals, business entities, ethics, etc). Furthermore, the fact that they are IRS certified means you can practice in any state in the US.
In summary: if you just want to prepare basic returns like 1040s, H&R Block is a great option to get both training and experience. But if you want to get serious about it, either go straight taxes as an EA or a broad accounting stroke as a CPA. Either of these should open up a lot of job opportunities for you. Good luck!!
