Q: How do I invest in foreign stock markets or companies?
I’m highly interested in investing money into china and china markets, how do I go about doing this? I do not want to be scammed and I would rather not visit the country just yet.

A: Some foreign companies have their stocks listed on US stock exchanges. These stocks are classified under “ADR’s” or American Depository Receipts. Or you can buy mutual funds that hold a portfolio of stocks. Also some brokers allow you the flexibility of buying foreign stocks which are specified with a ticker symbol. Figure out what you want to invest in, then go from there.

Q: How do I invest in foreign stock markets? Like the BSE(Bombay Stock Exchange)?

A: Find a local stock broking firm that can trade in that market or stock exchange (it may cost you more in transaction fee to invest in a foreign market).
Just tell them you want to invest the stocks in that exchange and ask them if they can do this for you.

Otherwise, find a local broking firm in that country and open a foreign account with them. Depending on certain countries, they may not accept foreign investor without any prove or some supporting information because of tax issues.

Another way is to buy existing investment funds related to that market.

Q: What U.S. entities can purchase stock on foreign markets and are there any requirements?
I’m interested in either personally investing or starting a holding company that invests in stock on foreign exchanges, as well as (at a later date possibly) domestic markets. Could anyone please lead me in the right direction as to what my options are and what the necessary requirements/forms/ducomentation would be?
I’m a U.S. Citizen.
As for the foreign markets I’m looking to invest in, they consist mainly of less-established Eastern European markets, such as Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, etc.

A: Each broker will have different paperwork requirements. You ought to contact the various brokers you intend to work through and find out what they require. There are not normally any special requirements aside from those.

I know that E-Trade has started allowing investors to trade on selected foreign markets, and plans to expand to more markets in the future. That will be a relatively easy and low-cost way to start, unless you need all markets immediately.

Q: how can i buy shares in companies floated on the chinese and hong kong stock markets?
I have a UK bank account but want to invest in foreign stock markets

A: You can buy A listed shares of Chinese companies in Hong Kong. My advice would be not to China – is in the ‘wild west’ stage so far as stock market investment is concerned.

Q: are there websites where I can invest in foreign stock markets (E.g US, China)?

A: I don’t know where you live!

But if you live in the US and want to invest in foreign stock markets, you can:
1. Invest in mutual funds which invest in these foreign markets.
2. Buy stocks in the US stock market as ADR (American Depository Receipts), but they really are foreign companies. For example, you are in US, and you can buy Kookmin Bank (KB) a Korean company. You just buy KB and there, you buy a Korean company.
3. Some stocks can’t be bought using ADRs. E*trade (www.etrade.com) is now offering or will offer trading in six foreign markets:

Hope this helps.

Q: For a 25 yr investment term would you invest more in the foreign stock market or US stock market and why?
I am filling out my 401K forms and would like to know what others have to say. PLEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU HAVE GOOD KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THIS TOPIC. INCOMPLETE ANSWERS SHOULD BE GIVEN “THUMBS DOWN”!

A: Vanguard, a well known mutual fund group suggests no more than 20% in foreign stock and 80% in U,S. stock investments. They argue that foreign investments tend to be more volatile than the U.S. Markets: https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/planningeducation/education/PEdIESBCInvIntnlInvestsContent.jsp

Fidelity, a second well known mutual fund group suggests up to 20% in foreign stock, in their Fidelity freedom funds. (Go to this link and click on fidelity freedom funds) http://personal.fidelity.com/planning/retirement/invest_overview.shtml.cvsr?refpr=rrc19

I personally would suggest 70% U.S. stocks and 30% foreign stocks, for the money you put in stock funds. (As you get older you need to start putting more and more into bond funds, however.)

Everybody has slightly different theories on what percent to put in foreign stocks.

Q: Are there online brokers for investing in foreign stocks?
Is it possible to invest directly on foreign stock exchanges through an online broker. I am not talking about investing in ADRs on US markets, but actually buying directly on foreign stock exchanges.

A: http://www.interactivebrokers.com/
One of the bigest international brokers.

Investing is a great way to take advantage of rising energy costs!

Those record profits for the oil companies were mostly passed on to investors. The naive public assumes the CEO of the company pockets the money.

A: Yes.

Q: [CANADIAN BUSINESS EXPERTS ONLY PLEASE] What is the best way for a Canadian to invest in foreign markets?
I live in Toronto, ON and I want to buy foreign stocks that pay dividends in foreign currency.

Please advise.

A: Ask your bank or your brokerage firm.

Q: Why are foreign stocks so greatly influenced by our stock market?
I am baffled why the stocks that the China stocks (CBAK, CDS, RCH) that invested in are so influenced by the U.S. stock market. If our market goes up, so does the stock, if our market goes down, so does the stock. Am I not really investing in how these companies will do overseas but rather what our beloved analysts and stock brokers/institutions think of the stock?

A: The stock market is 80% speculation. When a market as significant as the US one goes up or down, it has ripple effects around the globe.
